PUBLIC NOTICE

The City of Tangent hereby advertises a public notice for applications to fill Seat 1 on the Tangent City Council. The City of Tangent will be posting the application online on the website TangentOR.gov and will have paper applications at Tangent City Hall, available during regular business hours.

The remaining term of Seat 1 is three years and two months, with the term ending on December 31, 2028. The city will attempt to have the vacant seat filled by January 2026, with three years remaining on the position term.

Qualifications
Per Tangent City Charter Section 16 and Section 17: No person shall be eligible for an elective office or the city unless at the time of the election the person is a qualified elector within the meaning of the state constitution and has resided in the city during the twelve months immediately preceding the election. The council shall be final judge of the qualifications and election of its own members. No person shall be eligible for election or appointment to the office of mayor or council member if that person has one or more of the following relationships with a mayor or council member at the time of appointment or taking office upon election: the spouse, brother, sister, child, parent, father-in-law, mother-in-law of the mayor or council member.

Submitting Application
To apply, candidates must fill out the application and submit it to Tangent City Hall before 4:00 PM on Thursday, November 20. PDF of the e-signed application or a scanned copy with a physical signature may be emailed to Tangent City Hall at jsamaniego@tangentor.gov before the deadline.

November City Council Meeting
On November 10, the Tangent City Council will review the process and determine the next steps in filling the vacancy. The November City Council meeting will start at 6:30 PM at Tangent City Hall. If anyone wishes to attend virtually, please email the City Manager or call City Hall before 4:00 PM on November 10, to receive the link to the meeting.

The Tangent City Charter and Municipal Code of Ordinance is available online for viewing at TangentOR.gov/government as well as the City Council Rules.

The City of Tangent uses the State of Oregon SEL 101 form for candidates to fill out. The City is a nonpartisan position, so Party Affiliation is not required to check on the application. There is no fee for being appointed to the Tangent City Council.
